Every year, over 100 volunteers, learners, staff, supporters, family members and local dignitaries gather for a potluck picnic.
This festive event truly paints a picture of the outstanding achievements made possible through the special relationships forged throughout the year between tutor/mentors, learners and instructors. We celebrate successes and feast on good food!
Learners from dozens of countries attend, bringing dishes from their native countries, with many wearing traditional dress. Besides the good food and fellowship, we read from our annual publication, WRITING FROM THE HEART. This is a collection of learner-written stories that are powerful and heartwarming. Learners volunteer to read their submissions aloud and often bring the audience to laughter or to tears.
Recognition is given for hours spent in class or volunteering, and TUTOR of the YEAR, LEARNER of the YEAR and VOLUNTEER of the YEAR awards are announced.
