1:1 Tutoring

One-to-one tutoring is available for any adult English language learner who wants to improve his or her English literacy skills. This program serves non-native English speakers whose needs and goals can not be met by BRL's existing class programs. Call the BRL office at 540-265-9339 Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm to schedule a registration appointment. If you wish to save time at your appointment, you can fill out the registration form below.

In our tutoring program, a trained volunteer tutor will work with you for two hours per week for a minimum of 6 months on literacy skills that are relevant to you and your goals. You will meet with your tutor once per week for two hours in a public space, such as BRL, the Main Library, or another library close to your home.

How much does it cost?

There is a one-time $30 registration fee. This will be paid during your second meeting at Blue Ridge Literacy.

Where will I meet my literacy tutor?

You will meet your tutor in a public space, such as the BRL offices, a library, or a coffee shop. Tutors are unable to tutor in your home.

Who will be my literacy tutor?

Your tutor will be a trained volunteer who wants to help you achieve your personal goals. 

What will I do with my literacy tutor?

You will talk to the BRL Program Director about your interests and goals. She will help your tutor choose materials that will help you improve your literacy skills.

How often will I meet my literacy tutor?

You will see your literacy tutor once per week for two hours. You will work with your tutor for a minimum of 6 months.
